Speed dating older people
(Erin Gallagher, Daily Southtown) Dozens of Southtown seniors, who came of age in an era when asking someone out was a long and formal process, got together Thursday to participate in a new-age form of matchmaking: speed dating. Some, like Jan Miller, of Peotone, just wanted to meet men with whom to socialize, and maybe go dancing."There's nothing for us older people to do anymore," she said.
While men sat at individual tables, women rotated from table to table in five to seven minute intervals, introducing themselves and chatting a little before moving on.
Would you rather travel 50 years back or 50 years forward?
The seniors were told to approach at least 10 people they didn't already know.
PORTAGE, MI - Speed dating for young people is well-known, but for seniors?
Sure, why not, say organizers of the Portage Senior Center speed-dating events July 17, 24 and Aug. Seniors looking for friendship, companionship and maybe love in all the old places often find themselves without time or patience for the been-there-done-that dating scene.
Participants complete confidential rating sheets for each date, saying who they like and, most importantly, who may receive their contact information.
